Yin Yoga stretches the connective tissue--thick fibrous bands that wrap our muscles, organs and joints-- and flushes out the toxins trapped inside. By compressing and stretching the body, Yin restores the flow of vital energy that runs through these tissues, while strengthening and re-lubricating the joints and spine. Yin poses, most of which are seated, are held passively for minutes at a time.
Yin yoga targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments and tendons in the joints and spine. Over time, practice of yin yoga can lengthen these tissues, increasing range of motion. To convey the role that
connective tissue plays in determining range of motion, muscles account for about forty percent of the resistanceagainst the bodyʹs flexibility, while connective tissue accounts for about fifty percent. The intensity and physical benefits of the practice depend on twovariables, duration of the asana and the temperature of the muscle. The room will be heated for deeper stretching and conditioning.
