I have been a dedicated yogi for the past few years. After 3 years of continuous practice, I began to feel my practice stagnate. There were certain poses I could not do because my core was not strong enough. And, like most people, I continued to work out of alliance, relying too often on my stronger side to support my weaker side. This resulted in frequent pains and strains on my body. I decided to try Pilates because I had heard that it is helps to increase strength and flexibility without imposing too much stress on the mind.

Since I started taking pilates classes, my balance and posture have dramatically improved, and so has my yoga practice. Increasing my core strength and my body awareness has given me the confidence to try new and more challenging yoga postures. Some of the exercises require a little bit of coordination and balance, both of which I lack. Attempting them is sometimes humbling, but always rewarding when I finally do manage to do them.

The instructors at The Yoga Room are excellent, encouraging you to work hard, but safely. They are great at helping new students understand the unique and subtle ways to engage your core muscles, even muscles you may not know you have. Just when I get into a groove, the instructor mixes it up and throws in some exercise I've never done before, ensuring I continue to be challenged.

I would highly recommend pilates to anyone interested in improving their health, and especially to those who are looking to compliment and improve their yoga practice.
